Munich Airport NJ LLC (MA NJ), the operator of the new Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport, announces the appointment of Michael Kunz as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer. As an experienced business leader, Kunz will assume responsibilities in Newark on March 1, 2023, after a one-month transition phase.
New Jersey based subsidiary of Munich Airport under new leadership
Over the past three years MA NJ and its parent company Munich Airport International (MAI) worked closely together with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to develop the largest-ever design-built project in New Jersey. Following the successful opening of the new state-of-the-art terminal on January 12, 2023, the management has now been adapted to operations mode. Together with Chief Operations Officer Stefan Fornasier and Chief Commercial Officer Elisabeth Sailer, Michael Kunz strives to provide a unique passenger experience and to set new standards for the entire American airport industry.
“It is our pleasure to welcome Michael to the Munich Airport family,” said Dr. Lutz Weisser, Managing Director at MAI. “As well-respected senior executive with an extensive knowledge and great hands-on mentality, he is the perfect fit to lead Munich Airport NJ’s next chapter of growth and success.”
Kunz has a longstanding and broad career in the aviation sector. At Fraport AG he was not only in charge of management contracts in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, but also responsible for all international consulting projects. Key projects included the operational upgrades at Ljubljana Airport, the extension of Lima Airport and several operational readiness and airport transfer (ORAT) projects. Subsequently he held management positions at the operation company of Klagenfurt Airport and Dornier Consulting International.
Most recently, Kunz served as Associate Partner and Head of the Infrastructure & Operations Solution Group at Lufthansa Consulting. In this position he optimized the ramp, terminal, cargo and catering processes of a large ground operations company in the Middle East, and acted as an on-site advisor for the CEO.
“I am delighted to be joining Munich Airport NJ in Newark,” comments Michael Kunz. “The new terminal is a masterpiece, featuring modern passenger amenities, dazzling artwork, digital technology and great dining and retail options. It fulfills me with pride to be operating these wonderful facilities and ensuring the terminal realizes its full potential.”
