Former British Airways’ work experience student, Adara Sivananthan, said: “I did my work experience placement in Flight Operations. It was an amazing week and I learnt so much about the life of a pilot, but also about multiple other roles at the airline. The placement gave me the confidence and knowledge I needed to apply to be cabin crew with British Airways and I was over-the-moon to be successful in my application. I’m so excited about my future and my first step to becoming a pilot at British Airways.”
The World of Work
British Airways’ work experience placements give students the opportunity to gain real insights into the world of work and first-hand experience of the fast-paced aviation industry.
The airline expects students to deliver live projects during their placement, as well as focussing on workplace skills and helping to build confidence as students think about their future.
Mel Kose, British Airways Community Education Manager, said: “I am really proud of our work experience programme. The hands-on scheme provides an insight into the breadth of what we do and encourages the best aviators of the future to join us. The programme has successfully attracted some fantastic people into British Airways, and one in five of our apprentices have previously completed work experience with us. I’m looking forward to welcoming our biggest ever cohort of students in 2019, as British Airways celebrates its Centenary.
“We’re looking for enthusiastic, aviation-loving and highly motivated students. So, if you think you would be the perfect fit for the British Airways team, be sure to apply now.”
Earlier this year, in an industry first, British Airways launched ‘Teacher Take-Off Days’, with teachers embarking on one-day work experience sessions across the airline and taking their learnings back to the classroom.
In June 2018, British Airways' work experience programme was awarded Gold accreditation by Fair Train for the second year running.
