IAM Hub takes center stage once again as EASA unveils its fourth release, driving innovation and growth in the European drone economy. With the launch of an enhanced IAM Hub dashboard, industry players can now access streamlined tools to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape and unlock new opportunities in unmanned aviation. This latest development reinforces EASA’s commitment to fostering a thriving, efficient, and well-regulated drone ecosystem across the EU.
A New Step Forward in Europe’s Drone Revolution
Europe’s airspace is evolving—and so is the way we manage it. With drones and electric aircraft on the rise, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is making bold strides to ensure this innovation happens safely and sustainably.
In the latest development, EASA has just launched the fourth release of its Innovative Air Mobility (IAM) Hub, a comprehensive digital platform designed to facilitate collaboration, planning, and regulation in the growing drone economy. This update brings with it a suite of new tools and data features that will help cities, governments, drone operators, and manufacturers navigate the future of air mobility with confidence.
So, what exactly is new in this release, and why should you—whether you’re a policymaker, a drone enthusiast, or an industry player—pay attention?
What Is the IAM Hub?
The IAM Hub is EASA’s digital one-stop shop for everything related to Innovative Air Mobility (IAM)—an umbrella term for technologies like drones and air taxis. It was first launched in December 2023 to provide a collaborative space for stakeholders across Europe.
Designed with inclusivity in mind, the Hub is a place where you can access real-time data, share insights, and align with others on how best to implement drone operations in your area. From national authorities to private drone operators, the IAM Hub acts as a neutral, data-rich resource to support informed decisions.
What’s New in the Fourth Release?
EASA’s fourth release of the IAM Hub is part of Phase 2 of its development programme, and it brings a host of important upgrades—especially those driven by feedback from stakeholders during the 2024 IAM Implementation Forum.
Here are the key highlights:
- Drone Economy Dashboard: A Real-Time Industry Overview
More than two million drone operators are now registered across Europe. With the new drone economy dashboard, you can now explore up-to-date statistics on the growing drone sector, including trends specific to your own country. It’s a valuable resource for understanding the scale and potential of the drone industry—essential for investors, planners, and regulators alike.
- Updated Drone Database for eSORA Integration
EASA has also refreshed its approved drones database, ensuring that it now supports the upcoming eSORA application. eSORA, or Enhanced Specific Operations Risk Assessment, is currently being tested to help streamline and harmonise operational approvals across EASA Member States. This is an important step toward making it easier to launch drone operations while maintaining high safety standards.
- High-Resolution Population Density and Land Use Data
Thanks to EASA’s collaboration with Copernicus and the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the IAM Hub now includes EU-wide population density and land use data. These data layers are critical for anyone looking to plan drone operations in urban or sensitive areas. Whether you’re mapping out a delivery route or applying for approval, these insights make it easier to operate safely and legally.
- GeoZone Data Integration
The Hub is now also testing ED-318-compliant GeoZone information from Denmark. This marks an important milestone in the standardisation of geographical data formats, which will make it much easier to interpret and integrate data across national boundaries.
Why IAM Hub Matters to You
If you are involved in any aspect of drone technology—whether as a city planner, drone operator, or business owner—the IAM Hub can save you time, reduce risk, and help ensure compliance.
By giving you access to trusted data sources and harmonised standards, the IAM Hub supports faster, more coordinated decision-making. As Rachel Daeschler, EASA’s Certification Director, put it:
“EASA is delivering on a key priority identified by stakeholders. The IAM Hub is a key priority for the Agency and the newly created Innovative Air Mobility Department.”
Voices from the Industry
The drone community is already seeing the value of this expanded platform. Oriol Lopez, CTO at Swiss drone delivery company RigiTech, commented:
“The IAM Hub is evolving to an ever more important tool for the drone industry in the European Union and Switzerland. Harmonised, reliable, and easily accessible data are key elements for planning safe drone operations.”
His point is well taken. As drone services like aerial logistics, surveillance, and even passenger transport become more widespread, platforms like the IAM Hub will be vital to coordinating efforts at local, national, and continental levels.
Backed by Policy and Purpose
It’s also worth noting that the IAM Hub is not just a standalone initiative—it’s Flagship Action Number 7 of the European Commission’s Drone Strategy 2.0. This positions it squarely within the EU’s broader goals for a smart, sustainable, and inclusive drone market.
With funding from both the European Commission and the European Parliament, this project is set to continue growing until at least September 2026 as part of its current development phase.
IAM Hub: A Platform That Connects the Future of Flight
Your Gateway to the Skies of Tomorrow
The future of flight is closer than you think—and the IAM Hub is helping shape that future right now. Whether you’re flying drones for recreation, business, or public services, this evolving platform is a vital tool to help you do it better, faster, and more safely.
As urban skies get busier, collaboration, data transparency, and standardisation will be more crucial than ever. With this fourth release, EASA is showing that it’s listening to stakeholders, adapting to real-world needs, and delivering tools that matter.
So now it’s your turn:
What do you think of the new IAM Hub updates? Are there features you’d like to see added in the future?
