Munich traffic figures for 2023

In 2023, Munich Airport experiences a remarkable 17 percent rise in passenger numbers, reaching a total of 37 million, which is five million more than the previous year. Additionally, the number of aircraft movements sees a six percent increase, reflecting the dynamic growth in aviation activities. Furthermore, the air freight volume reaches approximately 277 thousand tons, highlighting the continued expansion of air transportation.

Passenger numbers at Munich Airport  increase by 17 percent to 37 million

The ongoing positive trends at Munich Airport are evident in the traffic statistics for 2023. Passenger numbers increased by five million compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 37 million. At present, Munich Airport has achieved approximately 80% of the record level observed in the pre-crisis year of 2019. The number of aircraft movements also rose by six percent from 2022, surpassing 300,000 take-offs and landings. Notably, the seat load factor set a record at 81.3 percent, crossing the 80 percent threshold for the first time since the airport’s inception.

In 2023, the focus of passenger development centered on traffic originating from or destined for Munich, experiencing a 22 percent increase from the previous year. Additionally, the number of transfer passengers, crucial for hub traffic, exhibited double-digit growth at 11 percent.

With a total of 219 destinations spanning 64 countries, Bavaria’s aviation hub now boasts robust connections to the global route network. In 2023, the airport was served regularly by 99 airlines, including nine exclusively dedicated to air freight.
