Florian Guillermet starts new role as EASA Executive Director from start of April
Florian Guillermet is set to commence his role as the Executive Director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on April 1, 2024. His appointment by the EASA Management Board on December 13, 2023, marks a new chapter in the agency’s leadership following the tenure of Luc Tytgat, who served as Acting Executive Director for seven months.
Transition from DSNA to EASA
Prior to joining EASA, Guillermet held the position of Director Air Navigation Services at France’s DSNA since June 2021. In this capacity, he managed a substantial workforce of 7,000 individuals, overseeing the delivery of services and ensuring the efficient operation of the organisation. His experience at DSNA underscores his capability to manage large-scale operations, a skill set that will undoubtedly benefit EASA in his new role.
Extensive Leadership Experience in Aviation
With a career spanning 26 years in the aviation sector, Guillermet brings a wealth of leadership experience to EASA. He has occupied top-level management positions in both France and various European Union aviation organisations, gaining insights into diverse facets of the industry. His expertise encompasses safety, air traffic management, and performance improvement, making him a well-rounded leader poised to guide EASA through its strategic objectives.
Educational Background and Achievements
Guillermet’s academic credentials further bolster his qualifications for the Executive Director role. He studied engineering with a focus on applied mathematics, computer science, and business administration at the École Polytechnique in Paris. Additionally, he holds a Masters in Air Transport Management and Aeronautics from the French National School for Aviation (ENAC) and has studied at UCLA in Los Angeles, California. His academic achievements reflect a strong foundation in both technical and managerial disciplines, equipping him with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the aviation industry.
“My ambition is to take EASA to the next level, making it a modern organisation fit for the digital age, while ensuring the highest standards of civil aviation safety and environmental protection are met across the entire aviation ecosystem,” Guillermet said. “While the Agency’s core role is as a regulator, I want to build strong relationships with stakeholders, in Europe and globally, to ensure all air travel is safe for every EU citizen.
