The Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) Africa Safety and Operations Workshop, hosted by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), kicks off this week for CANSO’s Africa members. Regional experts and workgroup members have convened in Ghana’s capital with the goal of collaborating across the region to bolster aviation safety. The theme of this year’s workshop is « Recommitting Ourselves to Safety in Operations. »
Aviation safety and operations in the spotlight in Ghana
As Thabani Myeza, CANSO Africa Regional Director, put it: « Safety is paramount in our industry, which is why we think it’s crucial to meet regularly and identify new ways to move the needle on this front. CANSO has recently made significant strides in delivering regional programs to accelerate free route airspace introduction and a peer review scheme for safety. We’re also working closely with key stakeholders like ICAO, AFRAA, and IATA on joint initiatives. These new approaches require new ways of working and more commitment from members. »
So what’s on the agenda?
Myeza added: « Some of our main objectives are learning from recent successes in collaboration and finding ways to enhance and replicate them, as well as focusing on their meaningful implementation and contribution toward regional programs. »
Ghana Proud to Host Aviation Safety Summit
Ing. Charles Kraikue, Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), expressed excitement about hosting this vital meeting in Accra.
« Aviation safety underpins an industry that directly and indirectly supports the employment and livelihood of no less than 65 million people globally, » Kraikue said. « That’s why the GCAA has long championed safety’s importance among African states and incorporated Safety and Security into its brand communication. »
A Unified Vision for the Future
Kraikue further stated: « It’s important for us experts to strive toward a common goal over these four days that will propel us to strengthen our roles in ensuring aviation safety remains paramount. »
You’ll want to stay tuned as these crucial talks unfold this week in Ghana’s capital. With regional leaders assembled to tackle aviation safety collaboratively, the summit aims to chart an ambitious course toward an even safer airspace for Africa and beyond.
