British Airways is bringing a slice of « la dolce vita » closer to home with the announcement of three exciting new Italian destinations for summer 2025. From cultural gems to sun-soaked coastlines, these additions aim to cater to travelers seeking unique and immersive experiences in Italy.
Italy: A Top Choice for Travelers
Italy’s allure remains unmatched, and British Airways knows it. The carrier, which serves more Italian destinations than any other European country, is expanding its reach with flights to Rimini, Salerno, and an additional route to Olbia.
In 2023, searches for Italian summer holidays surged by 10%, reflecting a growing appetite for the country’s iconic mix of history, cuisine, and scenic beauty. Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, remarked, “Italy continues to prove hugely popular with our customers. Rimini, Salerno, and Olbia are coastal destinations that we expect to be particularly popular with leisure travelers seeking sun, sea, and, of course, Italy’s fantastic food.”
Here’s a closer look at what these destinations have to offer.
Rimini: A Blend of Beaches and History
Starting 15 May 2025, British Airways will operate flights to Rimini three times a week from London Heathrow.
Why Visit Rimini?
Located in the Emilia-Romagna region, Rimini is synonymous with vibrant beach culture. Its 15 kilometers of golden sand and clear Adriatic waters make it a top choice for sunseekers. Yet, Rimini isn’t just about the sea—it’s steeped in history and charm.
Explore landmarks like the Arch of Augustus, a Roman marvel from 27 BC, or stroll across the Tiberius Bridge, which has stood since the first century AD. For an enriching day trip, consider visiting nearby San Marino, a UNESCO World Heritage Site perched on Mount Titano, offering a blend of breathtaking vistas and medieval architecture.
With return flights starting at £131, Rimini’s cultural and coastal offerings make it a must-see.
Salerno: Gateway to the Amalfi Coast
Launching 22 May 2025, British Airways Euroflyer will offer three weekly flights to Salerno from London Gatwick.
A New Hub for the Amalfi Coast
Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, which began commercial operations in July 2024, offers travelers an alternative to Naples for accessing the world-famous Amalfi Coast.
Salerno is more than a gateway—it’s a destination in its own right. Stroll along its picturesque promenades, indulge in local Campanian cuisine, or soak in the lively atmosphere of its historic piazzas. For those venturing further, towns like Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello beckon with their cliffside views, colorful architecture, and Mediterranean charm.
Flights to Salerno are priced from £168 for a return journey, and services will run until late October 2025, allowing for plenty of time to explore this idyllic region.
Olbia: A Sardinian Jewel
The northeastern coast of Sardinia becomes even more accessible in summer 2025, with British Airways launching a new service to Olbia from London City starting 25 May 2025. This complements the existing Heathrow route, providing travelers with added flexibility.
What Makes Olbia Special?
Olbia offers a mix of history, culinary delights, and stunning natural beauty. Explore the bustling Mercato di San Benedetto, where you can savor Sardinia’s freshest produce and seafood.
For beach enthusiasts, Olbia is a gateway to the iconic Costa Smeralda, known for its turquoise waters, fine sand beaches, and luxury resorts. Whether you’re seeking a relaxing retreat or an adventure-filled escape, Sardinia delivers.
Return flights to Olbia begin at £116, making it an appealing choice for families and solo travelers alike.
A Summer to Remember
With these new routes, British Airways solidifies its position as a leader in connecting travelers to Italy’s most sought-after destinations. Whether it’s Rimini’s historical treasures, Salerno’s Amalfi Coast charm, or Olbia’s Sardinian allure, summer 2025 promises unforgettable Italian adventures.
