NATS, the UK’s leading air traffic control provider, has been honored with the prestigious Gold Quality Mark from the government for its outstanding participation in the Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme.
The GAYE scheme
The GAYE scheme, managed by Payroll Giving, enables NATS employees to make tax-free donations directly from their salary to UK registered charities, HMRC recognized good causes, or places of worship. In the last year alone, NATS employees contributed over £212,000 to more than 100 charities and good causes through GAYE, with a remarkable £20,000 donated in January alone. The top five charities supported by NATS employees over the past year are Cancer Research UK, NSPCC, The Trussell Trust, RNLI, and Shelter.
Payroll Giving provides a dependable source of income for charities, enabling them to plan and execute various projects, including research, infrastructure development, and providing essential services.
NATS introduced the GAYE scheme in 2008 and has been recognized with the Gold Quality Mark after meeting stringent criteria, including the size of the organization, the percentage of employees participating (12%), and the internal promotion and facilitation of GAYE events.
Jane Johnston, Head of Corporate & Community Affairs, said, “The GAYE scheme is a really easy way for employees to contribute to the charities they want to support, and we’ve always had strong uptake, with over 12% of the workforce participating. It’s wonderful for everyone’s efforts to be recognised with the Gold Quality Mark, especially as monthly contributions are now reaching an all-time high of more than £20,000.”
Suzie Power, Director, Payroll Giving in Action, said: “We are thrilled to partner with NATS in their successful Payroll Giving scheme. The Gold Quality Mark demonstrates their commitment to charitable activities and is well deserved.”
