The U.S. Air Force (USAF) has announced that its prestigious Airfield Operations Flight of the Year Award will be renamed in honor of Brian Bruckbauer, a distinguished figure in the field of air traffic control and airfield management.
Bruckbauer’s Legacy
Brian Bruckbauer, who joined Frequentis Defense Inc (FDI) as President on April 1, 2024, has had a significant impact on the field of air traffic control. Prior to joining Frequentis, he served as the President and CEO of the Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA) from 2021, leading the organization on a new strategic path to advance airspace integration for all airspace users. Before his tenure at ATCA, he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Brigadier General.
The Award
The USAF Airfield Operations Flight of the Year award is considered the top USAF annual award for the ATC; airfield management; and radar, airfield, and weather systems career fields. It is presented annually for a combination of USAF air traffic control (ATC) and airfield management facilities for various achievements. These accomplishments could be notable contributions to quality, safety, or procedural development of the airfield and ATC systems; outstanding handling of an unusual traffic workload, emergency situations, deployments, or exercises; or sustained efficiency in airfield and ATC services.
Renaming the Award
In recognition of Bruckbauer’s career accomplishments and his contributions to the advancement of USAF Airfield Operations, the award will be renamed the “USAF Brigadier General Brian R. Bruckbauer Airfield Operations Flight of the Year award” starting in 2025.
« Being recognized by the U.S. Air Force in this manner is a true honor for Brian, who should feel proud of this meaningful tribute. Including his name in the Airfield Operations Flight of the Year award acknowledges Brian’s personal journey but is also a testament to the unwavering commitment to excellence within our industry. This recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of our work and motivates us to strive for even greater heights in the years to come, » says Norbert Haslacher, Frequentis CEO.
This renaming serves as a testament to Bruckbauer’s significant contributions to the field and his enduring legacy within the USAF. It is a fitting tribute to a leader who has dedicated his career to advancing airfield operations and air traffic control.
